Reading Marry Christmas by Linda Phillips made me feel like I was wrapped up in a warm, twinkling Christmas scene. The protagonist, burdened by a learning disability but gifted with a unique perception of the world, resonated with me on a deep level. The book, filled with a nice blend of heart, humor, and the magic of the holiday season, reminded me of the importance of hope and peace in the face of adversity. The conclusion I came to after reading this was that 'Marry Christmas' is a testament to the human spirit, a story that underscores the magic of love and Christmas. I was moved by the pure emotional force of Linda Phillips' debut novel Marry Christmas. The story centers around the character of Britanica Jaymes, a woman burdened by an undiagnosed learning disability but gifted with a unique and tender perception of the world. The name Britanica screams intelligence, and the irony isn't lost on the readers or the character herself. Yet, she becomes an easy character to love, her resilience and outlook making her all the more admirable.
Phillips' writing style carries an enchanting air, wrapping the narrative in a soft glow reminiscent of twinkling Christmas lights. She deftly weaves a story of hope, love, and the magic of the holiday season, making it a perfect read any time of the year, not just during the festive period.
It isn’t all mistletoe and candy canes, though. Britanica has her fair share of struggles - the candy canes themselves pose a peculiar problem! Yet, the novel is brimming with hope and peace, and the reader can't help but root for Britanica as she navigates her journey, trying to achieve her secret Christmas wish.
Marry Christmas is not just a romantic novel; it's a testament to the human spirit and the magic of love and Christmas. It's a charming, heartfelt story that feels like it would fit perfectly on the Hallmark Channel - a simple yet tender tale with a dash of humor, a sprinkle of Christmas spirit, and a big bundle of love, hope, and peace.
In the end, Marry Christmas by Linda Phillips is a delightful read that left me with a warm, fuzzy feeling inside. A highly recommended read for those who appreciate a good dose of holiday cheer any time of the year.

Marry Christmas was quite a charming book in a very Hallmark Channel kind of way. I guess it’s really a case of it is what it is, quite a simple emotional story of an underdog in the shape of Britanica Jaymes getting swept up in a fairytale type of story and ultimately, or perhaps not, no spoilers, finding love.

It was an enjoyable read. No big surprises but if you’re after a tender although rather simple read then you could do a lot worse than to check out Marry Christmas. I could easily see this getting a small screen adaption to the aforementioned Hallmark Channel.

Marry Christmas by Linda Phillips was a charismatic novel that follows the life of Britanica James (a unique main protagonist with a rather odd name) she has endured a lot due to her disability but she doesn’t allow her suffering to change her view of the world and of finding love. However, Britanica does have one serious issue to contend with and feeling in desperate need she decides to make a secret Christmas wish, will it come true?

What a wonderful story. Author Phillips has created a cast of characters that are believable and who stand apart from each other as distinct individuals. They behave in understandable and realistic ways through the novel and that just makes me love them all the more. Too often we find characters behaving in bizarre ways just to fit a specific plot point along the way, but Marry Christmas ticked all of the right boxes for me There’s a perfect amount of heart and a sprinkling of added humor to this book, and Phillips has done an amazing job of bringing the whole blend of emotion and Christmas spirit together in a big bundle of love, hope and peace.

I will definitely add future Linda Phillips books to my wish list.

Marry Christmas by Linda Phillips is a charming book with a unique main character in Britanica Jaymes . She's had a learning disability she's dealt with, and along with an unusual name, her share of bullying. Despite her struggles, the magic of Christmas and the support of loved ones help to create a hopeful recipe for a perfect holiday. However, her weakness for candy canes proves to be a hindrance. A charming narrative that gives hope and peace during the holiday season that will carry throughout the year, this book is highly recommended.

Marry Christmas was a real emotional force of a novel. Britanica was a character I found it easy to love, it was hard not to. She is such a sympathetic soul, suffering as she does because of her learning disability, but having such a unique and tender perception of the world around her. As well as the tenderness and of course the love element this was also at times quite a funny story too. All very heartfelt and a perfect balance of the Christmas spirit. It was in the New Year I read Marry Christmas, so I’d definitely recommend giving it a go without waiting for next Christmas.

Florida author Linda Phillips appears to be making her debut with MARRY CHRISTMAS (and no, that is not a misspelling), and according to her brief bio she plans to move to Wisconsin, the locale of this excellent little romantic novel. She writes with a lilting aura that celebrates all the pleasures that imbue her characters, as the opening lines attest: ‘A cluster of twinkling lights; followed by a white, fluffy Pom-Pom, fluttered through the University of Wisconsin library. It paused and swirled around Britanica Jaymes before exiting through the window Britanica glanced up at the apparition and quickly dismissed it. Great. I’m seeing the fairy godmother ball again. I must be losing my mind. She turned her attention back to her Christmas card list…’ Quite gently we meet the principle character of this charming story, along with the factors about her past, and her perceptions, that play a central role in this story.

Phillips condenses the plot well - ‘Growing up with an undiagnosed learning disability and a name that screams intelligence, Britanica Jaymes suffers ridicule as a child. Pudgy, frazzled hair and a face plastered with freckles added to the ridicule. The support of family, friends and God provided all the love she needed. But there was one serious problem: candy canes are her form of kryptonite. Desperate, she made a secret Christmas wish. Most everything is coming true, except for true love. Signs of reverting back to the learning disability and still seeking true love, the magic of Christmas lingers in the air, and a dose of Shakespeare, Rambo and snowflakes help to create a perfect Christmas recipe of hope. Skip the final ingredient: peppermint - At least for now, until the cure is found.’

Related with a wisp of sensitivity supported by a keen wit and humor, this is a special novel - one that opens the door to a refreshing new author who appears to have a promising future. Recommended
