Sono Osato was born in Omaha, Nebraska on August 29, 1919. In 1934, she joined Colonel Wassily de Basil's Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo. In 1940, she joined the Ballet Theater in New York. In 1943, she appeared in the Broadway musical One Touch of Venus and received a Donaldson Award for best mostrar más female dancer for her performance. From 1944 until 1945, she appeared in the Broadway musical On the Town. She made only sporadic appearances after that having decided to devote her time to her family.
