I just found Abby Jimenez this month and she quickly became a new favorite. This story is so darn adorable, and I love the way she connects the community of characters across the books in this series. I am fully bought in and I hope she continues the collection!

Seriously, Abby Jimenez does not disappoint. I read this book in just about one sitting, staying up way too late on a busy, end-of-school-year night. It was that good—not even strong teacher-sleep-exhaustion could make me stop turning pages. And as I kept falsely promising myself “One more chapter,” I realized that my cheek muscles hurt because of the goofy grin permanently plastered to my face. Reading it is just plain goodness—you can’t help smiling, something we all need a little more of.

Alexis, an ER doctor from a pretentious medical dynasty, thinks she’s just passing through little, podunk Wakan on her way back to big-city life. But when she swerves to miss a raccoon, she and her Mercedes wind up in a ditch, leading to a series of humorous and honest events that have her questioning whether she belongs more to this world than the one where all her obligations and expectations live.

If you’ve read any of Abby Jimenez’s other books, this one will not disappoint. And if you haven’t, you need to rectify that. This one, as the title implies, has a really beautiful letter and journaling motif that plays a large part in this (misunderstood) enemies to lovers relationship between two ER doctors.

“We’re all a little broken…. We are a mosaic. We’re made up of all those we’ve met and all the things we’ve been through. There are parts of us that are colorful and dark and jagged and beautiful” (364).… (más)

“I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all, I still know quite certainly, that just to be alive, is a grand thing.” —Agatha Christy

This book is like watching a viral vlog post dedicated to the cliche of living your best life. But, really, it does such a good job of showing life as a gift and an adventure—one that needs to be taken advantage of every day, every hour, every minute. Instead of being paralyzed by fear, chained by unforgiveness, or dealing with loss through any number of unhealthy coping mechanisms, fight to focus on the beauty and people and love that’s right in front of you. Don’t stare at the sun waiting for the meteor to hit. The bad stuff’s coming (whatever it happens to be) no matter what, so enjoy the grand adventure of life happening all around you. Jump into that life and live fully.… (más)
