An inside look into those parts of the restaurants not usually visible to patrons. The author follows chef Tony Maws at Craigie on Main in Cambridge, MA. During the project the author moves from being an observer to being a participant as he gets more involved with the staff and becomes an advisor to Tony. If I you like this type of genre I also recommend Sous Chef by Michael Gibney

A psychologist studies a celebrity chef to explain what make him struggle. I found this read pretty slow going. The author writes a gourmet column and he displays so many elite attitudes about restaurants. I don't recommend this unless one wants to visit that world.

i was recommended this book because i was travelling with my pregnant wife. and the author travelled with a baby in this story.
the lady who recommended this book to me was at a farm and i hope the recommendation was based upon the fact that she isnt able to get much literature.
he talks mostly about flirting with teenagers, eating at 5 star restaurants and bitching about the others wanting to spend money on things other than food.
im a bit harsh just because i read the book through just because i had nothing else to read in italy.… (más)

This work memoir covers a year in the author's life -- after he got his PhD, during his internship of doing psychotherapy under supervision before he could become a real psychologist. He worked at a public, Harvard-affiliated hospital and tried to help some extremely dysfunctional individuals. There are a lot of memoirs out there about the same thing, but I think Dr. Haas's is as good as any of them. He is honest about his failings and his uncertainties, and has real empathy for the dreadful suffering of his patients. And his description of his supervisor's reaction when he was late for a session was absolutely hilarious. Freud would have been proud.

Similar titles are Frederick Covan's Crazy All the Time: On the Psych Ward of Bellevue Hospital, Lauren Slater's Welcome to My Country, and Darcy Lockman's Brooklyn Zoo: The Education of a Psychotherapist.
