Also, the book does a good job describing alcoholism well. One of the side-characters suffers from this and the book describes her struggles with it. I was impressed with this part.
The book is about a young man in his early twenties on a journey to find his birth parents. Because of this, it could be said that this story is a coming-of-age story.
I think it was a well written novel. I didn't regret picking it up. This is the author's second book.
I gave it 2 and a half stars because, I felt like years later I wouldn't remember the story. I read so much. The story line didn't blow my mind or make me tear up because the prose was so hauntingly beautiful, and there was a lack of research into the book which made it lack the depth I like to see in books. That being said it's not a horrible read.½
