A romantic love story set in the uncertain and violent days of the American Revolutionary War.
Lass Marvayne of Newburyport, Massachusetts, daughter of a merchant captain, is expected to marry Crispen Corey, her father's right-hand man and former apprentice. A visit to her married sister in Pennsylvania changed her life completely when she met and fell in love with Mahlon Doan, the youngest of five Doan brothers.(The Doan brothers were hsitorical figures: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doan_Outlaws ) Of a Quaker family, the brothers felt called to reject their tradition of peace, to fight against the American pull toward freedom from England. They stole horses for the British, and as time went on, they became more and more violent.

This is not exactly the cover picture, but more like it than any other choices.

As others have commented, the accompanying book is slim, but it's actually not a bad little guide. In addition to the upright and reversed meanings, this book provides a keyword for each card. The keyword selected by the author for each card is about the best of any guide I've seen. It's a great way of providing a one-word foundation. In a way you don't need much more than that--the deck you're using should help you interpret beyond that.

As to the deck that comes with this book, what a stinker for a beginner. The Minor Arcana are your basic pip cards--not at all helpful. Use the book, but ditch the deck.

Came with a set of cards. Is not as in depth as some may like, but it is an ok starting guide.

A collection of brief chapters about several of the prominent players in New England's history, including Roger Williams, Cotton Mather, Jonathan Edwards, Paul Revere, John Hancock, John Adams, Ethan Allen, John Stark, Samuel Morey, and Eli Whitney. Roger Williams advocated for: separation of church and state, that we should buy the land from the Indians, and that preachers should work. Cotton Mather's vehemence included the belief that lightning striking churches was the work of the devil. It was Stark who originally said "Live fre or die..."

A very, very basic book on reading the tarot. Not really great for anything beyond the usual slumber party stuff, but a good introduction.
