I recently read the eBook version of the book, Love Your Husband/ Love Yourself by Jennifer Flanders. This book is about embracing God’s purpose for passion in marriage. It outlines a Scripturally based strategy for blessing your husband. When these strategies are applied to your marriage, they will strengthen it. Love Your Husband/ Love Yourself encourages Christian wives to embrace God’s purpose for passion in marriage.

Unlike many other books on the subject, Love Your Husband/ Love Yourself jumps right into the physical aspect of marriage right from the beginning. The entire first half of the book is about how and why we should make the physical aspect of marriage and important priority. It covers everything from “What’s in it for me?” to how an active sex life reduces stress and rids our homes of tension and strife. It also covers the health benefits of an active sex life for both the wife and the husband. Part one of the book is extensive and contains eleven chapters.

Part two of Love Your Husband/ Love Yourself moves from the physical act of love to the emotional side of love. It focuses on how to love your husband unconditionally. This part explores God’s original purpose for marriage and how to better relate to and love your husband unconditionally. This section of the book contains nine chapters.

I read this book over a couple of months, generally reading 2-3 chapters a week. Love Your Husband/ Love Yourself contains a lot of information–it’s not a quick and leisurely read. I highly recommend you take your time with this one and to often stop and contemplate what you read. I do feel that Love Your Husband/ Love Yourself is a very good and Scripturally based book. I would recommend it to any married or engaged woman. I feel that all Christian wives would find helpful and useful information from it to strengthen their marriages.

The ONLY two things I got a little tired of or did not like was the author’s use of quotes and her using quotes from Debi Pearl. I believe the author over did it with the quoting other authors. While many were helpful there were just SO many of them. Without them, this book would probably be about half as long. I honestly just found it a bit tiring. I also did not like that she used quotes from Debi Pearl on several occasions. I do not personally agree with nor support much of what Michael and Debi Pearl teach. Thankfully, the quotes from Debi Pearl were reasonable ones and not some of her more outlandish and abrasive ones.

Overall, I would certainly recommend Love Your Husband/ Love Yourself to Christians wives wanting to understand their husbands better and strengthen their marriage ties. Jennifer Flanders did a fine job writing about the delicate subject of sex within a marriage and gave a good perspective of how it fits into a godly marriage. ( )

I was very and impressed with the author's candor in discussing her intimate relationship with her husband. It is very enlightening to understand the meaning of submission and unconditional love, as well as the obligations we have for one another. As a Christian, Jennifer Flanders fully explains the wonderful joy and bliss that God has designed for us in marriage. I found this book very insightful and would recommend this book for any women, either married or planning to get married. There are also numerous endnotes and additional reading recommendations. I also think men would greatly benefit from a version of this book as it relates to their role and responsibility in their marriage. ( )

EXCELLENT book! Over the course of time, the School of Hard Knocks, previously reading many of the listed resource books and the Word, I drew many of the same conclusions. However, I wish this book had been available at the start of my marriage...provided I would have been willing to listen. Would have saved on much frustration and tears. God's timing is His timing however. Lessons learned (still perfecting ;-) ) though and she has written about it much better than I ever could! I highly endorse it and heartily recommend it to ALL *married* women - young or old, newly married or not. If you've already experienced and learned these things, then it would be a fabulous reference to pass on to some other lady God leads you to share it with! ( )

Love your husband/Love yourself is Jennifer Flanders' exposition of the thesis she has been developing over her 22 years of marriage. It's backed up scripturally and scientifically (although I would perhaps argue that she overrelies on secondary sources; while I acknowldge that this is almost inevitable outside a university environment, some of her sources are notoriously poor). The greatest evidence for her argument, though, is that of her own testimony, living out the life she describes in this work. Most tellingly, her eldest child is now also following down what she and her husband describe as 'the path less travelled'.

I can't say that I totally agree with all the reasoning in this book. The science I generally found to be less convincing than her scriptural exegesis, but I most appreciated the wisdom Jennifer has clearly accrued over the years which she lovingly dispenses throughout.

This is a thoughtful but challenging book, especially for a relatively newly-married woman. I really appreciate the opportunity to read Jennifer's book and, while I don't always totally agree with her intellectual or practical conclusions, it is impossible to ignore the spiritual results.

As an unmarried, self-professed quasi-Christian woman, I wasn't certain how this book would pertain to me. I will admit that it was a slow read, but I appreciated the fact that, unlike many authors, Mrs. Flanders went directly to the point, sex. It was very refreshing to have an author directly say that sex is important, it was especially surprising though, to hear it from a Christian author. I would highly reccomend this book to anyone who wonders why their partner has grown distant. ( )
