brief synopsis: Amos Hatcher is an "art cop," meaning that he investigates crimes involving art. He works not only for the US agencies, but for Interpol as well. In New York, Amos is summoned by his good friend Jake Sloane, who has received a catalog of paintings that are going to be auctioned. These paintings are not such a big deal, but they have come from a collection previously not known & Jake wants Amos to figure out where they came from. But after Amos and Jake meet, Jake is murdered; Amos now must solve Jake's murder as well as the mystery of the provenance of the art. His work takes him to Rome, where there have been some weird art thefts and bizarre clues left behind. As he gets closer to solving the mystery, his life, of course, is put in danger.
It's a pretty good mystery and kept my interest for a few hours last night. If you like art world mysteries, try this one. He also has another one that I haven't read, The Rembrandt Panel, which I'm going to try to find. ( )
