Fiction. Mystery. HTML:

A cozy mystery with "a fast-paced plot, plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor, and tips on antique collecting" (Library Journal).

Spring has sprung a major leak in far-from-serene Serenity, as the Mississippi River drops in for an extended stay. With homes and businesses flooded, how better to help the town recover than by staging a church bazaar?
Brandy Borne knows her mother Vivian's plan, however, is more likely to lean toward bizarre, especially when she hears Mother wheedle a reclusive Russian heiress into donating the last Faberge egg ever created! When the winning bidder turns up mortally scrambled, Brandy and Mother cook up a plan to crack the case of this killer. . .who is one seriously bad egg!
Includes Miss Brandy Borne's Tips On Antiques!

Copied from my review at Amazon

a faberge egg, and no prozac

this is the 4th book in the series - although I have only read book 2 besides this one. Like Antiques Maul, the story is fast paced and full of humour and shopping tips: with a nice nod to the mysteries of Agatha Christie with the "meeting' with all suspects with scenarios and accusations put forth.

As in the other book I read by this author pair - I particularly enjoyed the inclusion of chapters written by Vivian: the perspective and self absorption to distraction are a nice sideline into Brandy's character. And, as I have come to learn, there are complete and finished tales within each book, yet an opening is left with unanswered or unfinished business that makes a good lead in to another book.

A fun read for a mystery fan- not overly bogged down with the gore and CSI science so prevalent in current mysteries ( )

What fun! Slightly "off" family involved in the antique business. Truly silly fun. Great recreational series. ( )

A Faberge egg is to go on sell at a local charity auction in Serenity, but the church scene turns to chaos as the attendees suffer from food poisoning, and the buyer is murdered with his egg missing. Brandy Borne's bipolar mother was in charge of the event and though Brandy is a surrogate mom for her friend, she is pulled into the search for the murderer. Romance comes to her from an unexpected source during the course of the investigation. A humorous romp similar to Delores J. Wilson's Big Hair and Flying Cows or Betsy Brannon Green's quirky southern old women. ( )

I won this book from the Library Thing Early Reviewers list, but it so happens that I have read at least one of the earlier books in the Trash 'n' Treasures Mystery series. (Antiques Flee Market) This book needed better editing as there is a glaring error in its historical facts--the author refers twice to Tsar Alexander and his ill-fated family and the Faberge eggs. This is done both at the beginning and the end of the book. As any student of Russian history knows, it was Tsar Nicholas who presented his wife, Alexandra, with the famous Faberge eggs and whose family met their ill-fated end at the hands of the Bolsheviks. Historical errors aside, the book makes for a cute weekend diversion as it details the theft of a long-lost Faberge egg from an auction held in a small town. It's totally implausible but fun. The mother/daughter detecting duo are pretty crazy and appear destined to be crazier as they have both gone off their meds. Stay tuned for future developments. ( )

Antiques Bizarre is fourth in a series of cozy mysteries by Barbara Allan, who is Max Allan Collins and his wife Barbara.
Both are writers and Max is the author of Road to Perdition(havent read-though the movie was good) and several of the CSI tie-ins. This book is not like either as it is not dark and harsh or a scientist solves crimes type book.
Antiques Bizarre is a fun romp of a mystery with a mother-daughter team of amateur sleuths who have a few problems like being bipolar, having a friend's baby, concern about ones's parentage and whether it is a good idea to take a teenage son on a stakeout of a crime scene. It is also a nice way to spend an afternoon curled up with a story that can make one forget howling winds and whipping snow.
This is for someone who likes mysteries by Tamar Myers, Alice Kimberly, Mary Danheim or any of the other cozy writers on the market. It is witty and entertaining. The characters are kooky and a bit goofy but this is all part of the books charm. This series has tips about shopping for Antiques and unlike most cozies along with the tips are cute tidbits about the narrators that are funny. I enjoyed the book and will seek the other books in the series out. ( )
