Thank you to Simon & Schuster for my copy of this interesting book. My husband is the sports fan in our family, so he grabbed this copy up and began to read immediately.

It's chock full of statistics and tidbits about the sport of basketball in general and about the Los Angeles Lakers in particular.

For a young father, Derek Fisher experienced the burden of watching his young daughter suffer from eye cancer. This is revealed in detail.

Sports fans will enjoy this one. ( )

The book, titled: Character Driven, Life, Lessons and Basketball, is a written autobiography written by five-time NBA champion and NBA veteran Derek Fisher .
He opens this book with a chapter devoted to his beloved young daughter Tatum. Tatum was diagnosed with a very rare condition called Retinoblastoma, Even as his then current team, the Utah Jazz, was in a big playoff run, when it came to his young daughters horrific situation, basketball was the furthest thing from his mind. He reflects on the fear and shock he, his wife, and his family experienced, the frantic research and medical consultations, and the eventual course of treatment decided on, and the miraculous full recovery of his precious young daughter. After her treatment was done, Derek Fisher shocked the world when he returned to the court. With 3:18 left in the game, Derek made a huge defensive play, and then hit a huge clutch 3 point shot to seal the nail-biting game victory. After the game, tearful Fisher was interviewed, where he revealed the emotional situation involving his then 11-month-old daughter.
He educated the NBA and the world about the rare from of eye cancer, Retinoblastoma, and how to prevent it from affecting other children.
This story is well known as one of the most touching and impacting stories in sports. He won the 2007 ESPY award titled “Best Moment” for his remarkable story and now he and his wife are operating a Children s Cancer Awareness program for Retinoblastoma.
