Which door would you go through to save the world?

David, Xander, and Toria King never know what new adventuresâ??and dangersâ??await them beyond the mysterious portals hidden on the top floor of their new house. They have battled gladiators and the German army, dodged soldiers on both sides of the Civil War, and barely escaped a fierce attack in their own home. Still they are no closer to finding their mother, who was pulled by powerful forces through a portal and lost in time.

Their only hope is to turn the tables on Taksidian, the menacing stranger who wants them out of the house so he can use it for his own twisted purposes.

But everything changes when a trip into the near future reveals the devastating outcome of Taksidian's schemesâ??a destroyed city filled with mutant creatures. It is only then that the Kings realize what they're really fighting forâ??the fate of humanity… (más)

The Kings continue their adventure throughout their house while looking for their mother. Each portal leads to a different world with creatures that may or may not mean them harm. They won't know until it' may be too late and they may all be in danger of being trapped in a world far different than the one they know. This is the 3rd book in the series. It's actually for young teens but it is a compelling story filled with adventures. You don't have to be a kid to thoroughly enjoy this series. ( )

This novel still only focusses on historically significant events to western civilization. The only hint of alternate cultures is when the King family finds Japanese artifacts, and decide not to travel there. This reader is left wanting more cultures, but still appreciative of Liparulo's ability to craft a story that draws a person into the adventure.

This is a middle school appropriate series that can be used in English, History, and library settings. An investigation of all of the cultures and historically significant events depicted in the book would be a fun cross curricular project. ( )

David, Xander, Dad, and Keal discover that Taksidian wants their house for himself in order to use the time portals to build an empire, and unless they can find his weakness in time, the future of the world itself may be in danger.

I was honestly expecting the books to get not as good as the series went on but this one was just as good! I love the way the story is constantly developing and changing! Fortunately or unfortunately, Xander is still a cocky 15 year old who doesn't listen to adult reason and hasn't changed in his quest to save his mother, even though the circumstances have changed.

Either way.
This book continues to be told from the viewpoint of David, which I wasn't expecting. Because the first book was written from Xander's perspective and the 2nd book was written from David's perspective, I honestly expected the 3rd book to be written from Toria's perspective! I guess I'm still waiting for the narrator perspective to change.

I find it ironic that Xander, the filmmaker, isn't the storyteller! I think it's hilarious. Xander is such the perfect 15 year old that he can't see beyond himself and, therefore, couldn't tell a story to save his life. David feels for others and sees beyond himself, making him the perfect storyteller.

It's been a fantastic series so far! On to book 5! ( )
