This was a very entertaining story, however the plot was pretty straightforward and the main character, Mace, took a little getting used to; she is not your typical heroine. ( ) After serving a two-year sentence for crimes committed after being drugged by persons unknown, Mason Perry is out to solve a high profile murder so she will be reinstated as a detective. Teaming up with a former civil defense, now corporate lawyer (and her sister, DC's chief of police), they take on a shady group of spies battling terrorism using unlawful means. David Baldacci has long been a very competent writer of political thriller fiction, but the recent few books I have read have really rubbed me the wrong way and now I start to wonder if all his books are this stupid. True Blue is about Mace Perry, an ex-cop in prison for bank robbery, though she does not stay in prison for long and she is determined to clear her name. Being in Washington D.C., every crime has a political angle and it is clear that someone powerful is pulling on strings to make her life harder. From the start, the book is an implausible story of heroism, utter stupidity and good writing. Because Baldacci is good at writing a story flow that makes you read just one more page, despite everything being, well, stupid (I have a way with words too, right).
"True Blue" is an absorbing thriller with a powerful message, but readers are most likely to remember it for its superbly appealing protagonist. Perry is smart and street-tough, and her eye for the telling detail in an investigation is unerring. Let's hope she appears in a new Baldacci title soon. From a reader's perspective, it could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Baldacci deftly ties [the] storylines together with a well-written and complex plot that will keep readers guessing at every turn. Hopefully, Mace and Roy will have an opportunity to turn up in a future Baldacci novel, as he has truly created some thoroughly engaging characters his fans will want to see more of. Distinciones
A former Washington D.C. police cop out to prove herself and a young lawyer from a prestigious law firm meet after he discovers the dead body of a female partner at the firm. As they investigate the death, they start uncovering surprising secrets from both the private and public world of the nation's capital--and what began as a fairly routine homicide takes a terrifying and unexpected turn into something complex, diabolical, and possibly lethal.
