My speech impediment (for -sh- sounds) makes this one too hard for me to read out loud, but it'd be a fun storytime book otherwise. ( )

A very cute book celebrating the uses of children's tushies from babyhood to adulthood. With colorful illustrations featuring children of all colors in different scenarios, toddlers and preschoolers will enjoy relating to how they use their tushies every day. The rhyming verses make it an excellent book for story times. Beware, there are some semi-nude tushy illustrations that will have your little ones squealing and falling over in laughter. ( )

"Life is comfy, you will find, / when you have your own behind. / Sitting down would NOT be cushy / if you didn't have your tushy! / When you're born, your tushy's there, / ready to go anywhere." And so begins this adorable picture-book exploration of the tushy, aimed at younger children. With all kinds of behinds - child and adult, animal and toy - on display, the rhyming text celebrates the many wonderful things we can do, from sledding to sitting on laps, with our tushy.

This fun little book, with its rollicking rhymes that just beg to be read aloud, and its winsome pencil and ink illustrations, would make an excellent story-hour selection for younger children. These sorts of humorous body-awareness books - think Everyone Poops, The Gas We Pass: The Story of Farts, or The Story of the Little Mole Who Went in Search of Whodunit - always seem to be a hit with young readers, who appreciate the honest exploration of themes that sometimes embarrass adults. For my part, I enjoyed this one enough that I will be tracking down the author's companion volume, The Belly Book. ( )

This book was very, very cute, and there were actually times I laughed aloud. In fact, one line became my Facebook status for a brief period of time. I don;t know if there are a lot of children that need a little help accepting their tushies (though I know many grown women who do), but if there are, this is the book. It's all about tushies of every shape and size (and smell), and the accompanying illustrations are darling. They reminded me somewhat of the artwork of a cartoon my sister watched when she was little (though I can't remember quite which one. Busy World of Richard Scarry, maybe?). It's kind of fussy and soft and very detailed. I would highly recommend this as a fun read along to kids. Or as a youtube worthy moment for stoned adults. :) ( )
