Summary: This was another rendition of the the traditonal story of Hansel and Gretel. This brother and sister were left in the forest by their poor woodcutter father because the family was to poor to feed them. While in the forest they come upon a gingerbread house and begin to eat off of it because they were hungry. The witch convince the come inside where she holds them prisoner so she can eat them. They eventually escape after killing the witch. They take some of her gold and other gems and finally find their way back home.

Personal reaction: I like this version because of the pop-up pictures. I also like the happy ending where the family isn't poor anymore. The good trumps evil concept.

Classroom Extension:
This book can be used to teach students that there can be happy endings in life.
