Since the tongue is such a powerful force -- for good or evil -- we are wise to ask: What would homes, churches, schools, even the public square be like if we used words with Christian intentionality and eloquence? WAR OF WORDS

Words are very important.
Chapter 1
1. Words come from the heart . We talk because God first spoke, words are a gift of God. Words that occupy the mundane events of our lives are significant because our lives are composed of the mundane. God should rule our mundane. Both the saddest and celebratory moments of our lives are accompanied by words. Words have made and changed everything in our lives. Horrible words can harm people for life. Silence is death. If we have word troubles it is because we have heart troubles. Words can bring life or they can bring death – you choose. Our experiences influence but do not determine our behavior. How our heart reacts to and interacts with the situations and relationships that are outside of you.
2. Sin turns me into myself. God has invested words with POWER. What is the lasting legacy of your words? God’s kingdom is a kingdom of love, and divine love gives words of love, service, grace, peace, and healing. Galations 5 “you bite and devour one another, be careful you do not devour one another.” (Paul Tripp)
Chapter 2.
1. James 1: 3-12. The mastery of the tongue is one of the clearest marks of a whole person, a true Chrisitian. Tongue mastery is the fruit of self-mastery.
2. The control of the tongue has both positive and negative aspects. An unregenerate tongue roams the wilds, quick to defend itself, swift to attack others, anxious to subdue them, always marked by evil. We can kill a man as easily with words as with a physical weapon.
3. Speaking with ‘forked tongue’, we bless God and curse those made in his image in the same breath. The use of the tongue permeates whole book of James.
a. Speak with single mind 1:5-8
b. Quick to hear, slow to speak 1:19
c. Speak with accountability for words 2:12
d. Words are no substitute for deeds 2:15-16
e. Don’t boast or exaggerate 3:14
f. Avoid squabbles 4:1
g. Don’t speak evil of one another 4:11
h. Don’t speak presumptuously 4:13-15
i. Don’t grumble 5:9
4. Our real struggles with sin are not in our areas of weakness, but in our areas of strength , and speech is usually a very efficient part of our character. (Sinclair Ferguson).
Chapter 3.
1. Eloquence. ( )
