Two siblings are excited to catch a leprechaun on the following day, which is St. Patrick’s Day. They create treats and lay traps to catch the little Irish fae and get his pot of gold.

I like the ideas the children come up with decorating and setting up traps. For me growing up St. Patrick’s Day was mostly a day for everyone to wear green and say they are Irish.

I am not sure how I feel about the way the story is told. It takes more than part of the title from The Night Before Christmas story. Part of me dislikes it for using it as a gimmick and the other part of me wishes I thought of it first. Sometimes the writing does not fit. In fact, when I was reading it sometimes I thought of different words that just seemed better to end sentences with than what was used.

I would read another from Natasha Wings Night Before Series as I said I like the ideas. I do think kids would like this one and is a fun way to introduce St. Patrick’s Day. ( )

In preparation for St. Patrick's Day, two children decorate the house and set traps for the tricky leprechaun. With streamers, shamrocks, and plenty of shiny things, how can the leprechaun resist? The next morning at breakfast, there's a loud clatter. The traps have worked! It seems like the little leprechaun has met his match and must reveal the location of his gold. However, as the kids soon learn, the leprechaun always gets the last laugh.

The Bottom Line: This is a cute St. Patrick's Day take on the classic Christmas poem, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. Recommended for storytime for kids ages 3 - 6.

The Night Before St. Patrick’s Day - By Natasha Wing (Picture Book)

I loved the book, The Night Before St Patrick’s Day, by Natasha Wing because it is a story that shares the traditions and myths of St Patrick’s Day. It is an excellent book to read in March and it explores the idea of different nationalities, as well as different holidays. It is educational but also very humorous for a young crowd. The story ends with the leprechaun tricking Maureen and Tim so that they do not get his pot of gold. The illustrations were also excellent and really brought the excitement of St Patrick’s Day to its audience. ( )
