She lives in an apartment building in a city. It is a little run down, with chipping walls, and a little aged with time and wear. Her family calls the place "The House of Joyful living". The other families of diverse cultural and racial backgrounds all get along and spend time on the weekends upon the roof. There is a strong since of bonding and accepting in this book. The little girl is struggling to come to terms with the arrival of a new baby into her life.
