His classic manual, updated with extensive Q&A sections, offers a unique source of practical spiritual support for new and experienced meditators. Eknath Easwaran is a very captivating writer. Each chapter I found myself reflecting on what I read and attepmting to apply it into my everyday life. This book is special because it presents a program that can work for any person, with any religion, belief, or ethnic background. Easwaran walks you through each point in the program, giving meaningful examples along the way to help the reader fully understand his approach. Truly a must-read for anyone looking to explore the benefits of meditation. Inner peace can be found. ( )

This is a book I will read again and again. It has wonderful depth and an open heart. Very readable without a lot of jargon. I was glad to see Mr. Easwaran addressed Christians, Jews, Muslims as well as Hindus and Buddhists. These simple meditation guidelines are very clearly laid out. There is something for everyone and something new each time I pick it up. I took my time reading it and felt blessed every time I picked it up. Thank you to LibraryThing for sharing a copy with me in exchange for an honest review. ( )

I've been seeking a book on meditation that also helps to incorporate the traits into daily life. Essentially, I've been looking for a view on meditation that helps explain how such practice could be part of a lifestyle. Easwaran's Passage Meditation does exactly that.

Other books and articles have provided me with knowledge on meditation for a specific purpose, such as reducing stress or improving sleep, but this book provides a holistic perspective that allows the individual to delve into meditation as a lifestyle choice.

This book lives up to its Complete Spiritual Practice pledge. One of the strongest parts of the book is the Q&A session, whereas Easwaran responds to an array of questions concerning meditation, perspectives, and daily living. This is a complete reference on meditation as a spiritual practice.

I've always felt that I was spiritual without being religious, and Easwaran helps me to reinforce that perspective while encouraging me to meditate and embrace my spiritual side.

Overall, this book is a great reference for the beginner or the advanced practitioner seeking a holistic approach based around passages. It's definitely worth the journey.

This is the first book I have read on the subject of meditation and I found it compelling. Material is presented in a easy-going manner with lots of personal and humorous anecdotes. The author taught meditation at the University of CA at Berkeley and later founded the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation. He wrote over 30 books on spiritual living. One of his main points is that all religions are different aspects of one universal truth and that each person is an integral part of this whole. He presents an 8-point program for studying meditation and making it a part of your daily life. Even if one does not adopt the program, there is still a lot of good advice on how to live a more fulfilling life. ( )

Eknath Easwaran used passage meditation as the focus of a group of spiritual practices he recommended to his students, who were in the U.S. In passage meditation, a prayer or reading recognized for its spiritual power is memorized and then repeated slowly and silently for a half hour each day to drive it into the consciousness. The book is easy to read, addresses many common concerns, and uses examples which will be familiar to Western readers. Very useful. ( )
