Described by one reviewer as, 'the most useful survey of recent English church history available', The Making of the Modern Church is ideal for students, those in theological training, or more general readers. It is a comprehensive introduction to a fascinating and crucial period in church history, starting at the beginning of the nineteenth century and concluding in the modern day. Though dealing with a large time scale, The Making of the Modern Church is thorough, with chapters covering all the major events and trends of the period, and a bibliography for each chapter to aid those who wish to investigate specific subjects in more detail. The third edition of this established text contains fresh and updated material, with new areas covered including the changing status of women in the church, English Roman Catholicism, and post-modernity. ""Mr Worrall writes with clarity. He has the gift of being able to simplify complex issues, and to pick out the important things in an involved debate."" Expository times… (más)

Comprehensive review of all the going on in the British church since 1800. He seems to have a good grasp of all the divisions of the church and a wonderful ability to grasp the essence of the different teachings and scholars he summarises.
He is willing to let everybody have their say but does not omit to list the problems of their ideas. ( )
