FROM AMAZON: Mika lives in future London, behind The Wall: Solid concrete topped with high-voltage razor wire and guarded by a battalion of Ghengis Borgs, it was built to keep out the animals, because animals carry the plague. Or so Mika's been told. But ever since Ellie vanished a year ago, Mika's suspected his world may be built on secrets--and lies. When a mysterious organization starts recruiting mutant kids to compete in violent virtual reality games, Mika takes the chance to search for his twin sister--and the truth."A hugely inventive and entertaining read which grabs the reader by the scruff of the neck from the first sentence. It flies along like a laser beam from a blaster and sustains the breakneck pace until the stunning climax. A fresh and exciting take on sci-fi..."--Eoin Colfer*Includes a bonus chapter previewing the breathtaking sequel THE WHISPER! ( )

This fast-paced science fiction adventure is the perfect combination of interesting characters, mystery, and an imaginative plot. Don't be scared by how long it is - the plot is so good that the story moves really quickly. ( )

I enjoyed reading it very much, even though I think there are some pretty major plot holes. I certainly hope it has a sequel, because it ended in a supremely unresolved state. In fact, if she can pull off resolving it believably, I will be profoundly impressed and intrigued, but I have a feeling that she will do it.
It reminded me a great deal of Ender's game, but lacks the finesse. On the plus side, the book has strong male and female characters. ( )

When people hear of YA dystopian many think Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze Runner, Shatter Me, Red Queen, Cinder, and The Selection.

Can anyone think of a YA dystopian books that are outside the popular YA dystopian bubble?

With so many secrets and action, it kept me interest to the last page. The world building is interesting. Dealing with corrupt government and the lies that are expose in the end.

The relationship between Mika and Ellie is done well. They are both strong characters that I felt deeply about. Their telepathic abilities adds to their bond even these they are distance apart.

There a lot going with different concepts that they don't seen to be fully flush out. There immoral pills, virtual reality, and mutations. ( )

It isn’t “Ender’s Game,” but “The Roar” is exciting, thought-provoking and very hard to put down.
