Mystery. Young Adult Fiction. HTML: Thirteen-year-old Quest (Q) isn't sure he's ready for a new family. For a long time it's just been him and his mom, Blaze. When they reach Philadelphia, Q and Angela realize this tour is definitely not the trip their parents had planned and that the "City of Brotherly Love" is full of mysteries and secrets that could threaten their new life together. This is a terrific book for students who want a fast-paced, intelligent, current-events-based thriller. Young Q (short for Quest) and his new stepsister Angela are getting to know one another on a giant tour bus after their respective parents' (his mom, her dad) whirlwind courtship, record deal, concert tour, and marriage. While crossing the country, however, Angela realizes she is being followed, and the two new siblings are drawn into an international web of intrigue involving the Secret Service, the Israeli Mossad, a rogue band of former intelligence operatives, and US-based terrorism cell.

Spy thrillers aren't really my thing, but I really enjoyed this one written for teens and pre-teens. There were quite a few twists along the way, no one is quite who they seem to be, and even the bad guys weren't just bad guys. I second-guessed a lot of what I was shown during the bulk of the book, and of course it's not the most realistic thing that these two teenagers are being caught up in this plot. However, the author does a decent job of at least making it plausible. And I really like the way they do whatever they can not to ruin things for their newlywed parents, who have recently made it big in the music industry.

My husband brought home the first 3 books in this series of 6 without knowing anything about it, thinking I might enjoy it. It took me quite a while to get to it, and I was really unsure how I'd like it. However, now I'm sad I only have 3 of the 6 (though the rest are available at my local library), because I am looking forward to seeing how this all turns out! I would recommend this for younger readers who want something exciting or thrilling, or even adults who don't necessarily care for adult spy thrillers but enjoy a good adventure story. (

Outside of a premise that’s a little nuts (kids traveling cross-country in a super luxe Motorcoach with their newly married, former/once more rock star parents, oh and also they’re being chased by international spies because of something they might know?) it’s an alright kind of book. Lots of action, quick thinking, teamwork, learning to trust your team. I liked that the kids are capable but still get in over their heads, and the adults are actually worth trusting, and the kids have to learn that. The parents are barely there, but this is reasonably believable (if the premise is acceptable) and it’s not like they don’t care, they’re just not part of the action. There’s a smattering of historical information, but that is for sure not the aim of the book; there’s far more about surveillance and terror cells than Independence Hall.

It’s a quick, clean read, and not completely predictable, I’ll continue with the series. (

This was the first book I've read by Roland Smith although I own several. I've always considered him an author who writes just for boys and avoided reading his books, but I was wrong. I really enjoyed this fast-paced tale laced with action, mystery, and political intrigue.
The book begins with the wedding of Roger and Blaze who make up a musical group called Match that has just landed a hit song and are getting ready to tour the country. The story is about their teenage children. Angela is Roger's daughter, and Quest or Q for short is Blaze's son. With Blaze and Roger about to embark on US tour, Q and Angela find their lives in upheaval. While trying to get to know each other better, Angela reveals that her mother was a Secret Service agent killed in the line of duty. Seemingly out of nowhere, Boone, a scruffy looking former roadie, appears and tells Angela that her mother may not be dead and may be a terrorist. The action and mystery amp up from there as Q and Angela find themselves being followed by Mossad agents while trying to find out the truth about Angela's mother. It's unclear in this story who can be trusted, but that just leads to greater suspense and exciting twists.
I really liked this story and will make sure to get copies of the rest of the series as well as reading other books Roland Smith has written. If I like them half as well as this one, I will be busy reading his books for some time to come. (

Young adult action adventure yarn. Spies, terrorists in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The author gives an overview of the history and importance of Philadelphia to the beginning of the nation.

What I liked was parents blending a family, while pursuing a hectic career. Being sure the children are involved in creating a new family, but also requiring them to continue their education. For this I gave ½ star to the rating. (
