This collection of New Yorker profiles by Mark Singer was hit or miss for me. I really enjoyed the piece on the Chino family, exotic vegetable farmers. I skipped a few (Tom Mix devotees, for example) that I just couldn't get interested in enough for a 30-50 page article. (
