Award-winning tale showing the relationship between a little girl and her elderly grandfather. The book "Grandpa" is about a little girl and her grandpa having fun adventures and telling stories to one another. The book shows a loving and caring relationship between granddaughter and grandfather. The author wrote in a lyrical style and the illustrator did a wonderful job in following the story in pictures. At some points in the book, I was confused because it jumped from one thought process to another. This then made sense because children think about everything all at once and simply say what they are thinking. The ending of the book made me sad. The author never mentions that grandpa dies but the illustrator did a great job by drawing the empty chair where grandpa once sat. On this page the illustration spoke louder than any words, it was sad but also a nice way to let the reader know that grandpa had passes away. In my opinion, Granpa is a well-written book. The book combines light, whimsical watercolor images with the simple thoughts and conversations between a young girl and her grandpa. The bolded words are from the grandpa and the italicized words are from the granddaughter (“This is lovely chocolate ice-cream. It’s not chocolate, it’s strawberry.”). The illustrations enhance the dreaminess and emotions of the story through pastel colors and simple, pencil sketches. The language is simple and clear, but feels eccentrically poetic (“There will be no room for all the little seeds to grow. Do worms go to heaven?”). The main idea of Granpa is to share an adorable tale about the love and friendship between a grandpa and his beloved granddaughter. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
