In a sweet melodic tune only an elder holds, Minnie tells you the best way to raise those chickens.

Minnie Rose Lovgreen's Recipe for Raising Chickens is a remarkable book and just like Far As I Can Remember: An Immigrant Woman's Story, 1888-1975, this book is bought to life as one reads it. I could hear and feel Minnie Rose talking in my ear as if she was sitting right next to me, as I read this book. Maybe she was! Whether you have ever wanted to raise chickens, are planning on it, or just know someone who raises chickens, this little book is a joy to read. Minnie tells it like a mother speaking to her children, she gives you every detail down to the sounds the mother chicken makes when speaking to her baby chicks. It doesn't matter if you live in a cold or warm climate, Minnie tells you what kind of chickens are the best to raise and what you need to do in being successful at raising those chickens. She tells you what kind of chicken coup works best and how you go about helping those chickens lay and hatch those eggs. So whether you are hatching new chicks for your coup or just want fresh eggs all year long, Minnie tells you how it's done. Minnie was no professional and did not learn these things in college, in fact Minnie only made it to third or fourth grade. She was however a hardworking, experienced, chicken raiser and dairy farmer who loved raising her chickens and took the best care there was, which included taking note on how to do it to the best of her ability. From saving the chicks from the nest when mother hen pushes them out, to sneaking them back under her in the middle of the night with a flashlight. I could just see Minnie doing all this as I read her book. What an amazing little lady Minnie is and continues to be through those of us who read her book, as we bring her to life. What I loved the most about this book is that it is short and sweet. All the details, in fact the most important details you need on raising chickens are here. The beautiful hand writing and illustrations add to the books character and charm making it a unique book for all ages. ( )
