( ) If you happened to be an elementary school-age kid in the early 1970s, Wacky Packs were the coolest thing ever. And who knew they were made by Art Spiegelman, who later went on to create "Maus"? This book includes a really nice introduction by Spiegelman, explaining how the Wacky Packages came about, and reproductions of the first seven series of the stickers. It's got another nice feature for an art book: it's small (physically) which means it can get shelved with regular books and doesn't take up half your coffee table. Nice! This isn't so much a book to read as it is a collection of art to admire, and for anyone who collected the stickers in the 70's, these iconic images will bring back fond memories. A pity that the text is minimal, as I would have loved a thorough look at the Wacky Packages phenomenon, but the emphasis here is on the original art (probably cheaper for Topps that way!). Kudos to the publisher for the best dust jacket I've seen; not only does it look and even feel like the familiar red wrappers, but there's a photorealistic stick of gum lurking underneath. Plus, you get a few bonus stickers of unreleased art, but this time, being older and wiser, you'll probably resist the impulse to stick them on your headboard. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Wacky Packages--a series of collectible stickers featuring parodies of consumer products and well-known brands and packaging--were first produced by the Topps company in 1967, then revived in 1973 for a highly successful run. In fact, for the first two years they were published, Wacky Packages were the only Topps product to achieve higher sales than their flagship line of baseball cards. The series has been relaunched several times over the years, most recently to great success in 2007. Known affectionately among collectors as "Wacky Packs," as a creative force with artist Art Spiegelman, the stickers were illustrated by such notable comics artists as Kim Deitch, , Bill Griffith, Jay Lynch, and Norm Saunders. This first-ever collection of Series One through Series Seven (from 1973 and 1974) celebrates the 35th anniversary of Wacky Packages and is sure to amuse collectors and fans young and old.
