A well written, anecdotal books about silent film classics, many now lost. Joe Franklin is a New York telelvsion and radio personaility whose folksy manner and in depth knowledge of the topic do well here. If you are a silent movie fan, I'd highly recommend this book. ( )

That The Great Train Robbery was almost accidentally a good film shouldn't be held against it; in fact, quite to the contrary, it has frequently been praised for things it just didn't do.
