Even writers about writing need editors.

As a concept, this is an excellent book. And the level of research is impressive. There are a lot of useful and interesting illustrations, too. If you know something about the subject, and just want to look up some details, this book should serve you well.

But if you just want something to read... eh.... As a sample of writing, it's abominable. The sentences are too long, the organization too poor. It's simply too much work to slog through. I wish I could recommend the book. But it needs a good rewrite first. ( )
