This book's title describes it very accurately; it consists of aerial photographs of grounds which once hosted Football League matches, but no longer do, accompanied by captions which narrate the stadium's use and structural changes through the years. The photographs are not particularly memorable aesthetically, and occasionally puzzling; at times I felt as though I was playing 'spot the ground' (and more than once, failing). Criteria for inclusion are unclear, and some of the grounds (i.e., Wembley) only hosted one or two league matches. The book is workmanlike but rather dry except for the hardest of diehards. ( )
