Although I live in central New York and served for a time of the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Foundation, I learned things about her that I never knew by reading this book. Griffin does a masterful job of making Stanton come alive out of the shadow of Susan B. Anthony with whom she is always coupled. Stanton had a much more varied and public life with her foray into the issue of religion and the subjugation of women. This book gives you a greater respect for this iconic figure. Distinciones
The first comprehensive, fully documented biography of the most important woman suffragist and feminist reformer in nineteenth-century America, In Her Own Right restores Elizabeth Cady Stanton to her true place in history. Griffith emphasizes the significance of role models and female friendships in Stanton's progress toward personal and political independence. In Her Own Right is, in the author's words, an ""unabashedly 'great woman' biography."" No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
