(89 pages) This book is about all kinds of animals from all over the world that are venomous. It goes into detail about snakes, spiders, scorpions and even into things like birds. I think that this book would be good at Middle Ages, a little older but not yet into middle school age, as it is a lot longer. I think that it would be a good read aloud book, only if you break it into sections as it is pretty long.

Super interesting book! Great visuals. I think that this would be a huge hit in 3rd-5th grade!

I like this book because it is displayed in a silly, colorful, and intense way. It does not look like a boring informational book but it does have lots of good information and text features. There are also like games and quizzes throughout the book to test and give knowledge on venomous animals. I could personally only skim through this book because it gives me the heeby-geebys, but I know some kindergarteners who would love this book for their book boxes. ( )

This informational book is full of bright, detailed color photographs of the animals that are discussed. The text is presented in an engaging, conversational yet informational manner that keeps the reader interested. Technical vocabulary is introduced in italics, carefully explained, then reintroduced in context multiple times throughout the text, which helps to learn new words. There is also a glossary at the end of the book to help remind the reader of definitions. Text flows seamlessly from one chapter to the next, with clever segues, as we move from one area of the world to another to discover toxic animals. I never realized how many venomous creatures exist in the world before I read this book, many here in the United States. But the author makes it clear in the final chapter that although we should maintain a healthy respect for venomous animals (and all life), they also need to be protected because they can provide valuable sources of food and medicine. This book would be ideal for children and adults of all ages who want to learn more about toxic animals, or just to learn more about various kinds of animals in general. The author’s research is so thorough that with each toxic animal presented, she is able to incorporate information about other non-toxic animals that are part of its life (predators, prey, symbiotic relationships, etc.). She also presents fun fact boxes for the reader to quiz himself/herself, with the answers provided underneath. One of the most valuable aspects of the book, though, is that in each section it tells home remedies for envenomation as well as how the venom is treated in hospitals, and what to do in case of emergency if stung or bitten. This book is fascinating, amazing, and beautiful.

"Venom" is a non-fiction science book that describes many differenty types of poisonous and venomous creatures. It has tons of pictures and diagrams that show the reader many parts of these creatures. It gives insight into their biology and why they use thier defensive and offensive weapons of venom and poison. It gives a lot of good insight into these different creatures, what they are like, and what environments they live in.

This book could be used as a cross-curricular connection in an English classroom. They could read a book that coincided with their biology lessons of insects and reptiles. It can also be a great example of a science non-fiction. It gives knowledge along with interesting and fun pictures that are sure to interest students.

I really enjoyed reading this book, but I have always been interested in snakes. I am afraid of spiders, so this book was a little scary at times. However, I think it would be a very interesting book to read in class with students. I am sure most students, especially boys, would like to read this book. ( )
