I really enjoyed this one, it had the elements of horror and gaslight-pulp that I craved when I heard about it, the reason I bought it. There's not really much to say about it other than I do recommend this one to anyone interested in Sherlock Holmes, Jack the Ripper, and to a lesser extent, Ellery Queen. When I was made aware of the book, I had already known about Ellery Queen and I think I had tried once to read one of those books as a kid but just was not interested then, anyway, when I was made aware of the book I immediately knew what I wanted from it and now that I've read it, I was not disappointed. I was drawn by the premise of this well-narrated audiobook. When Ellery Queen is given an old manuscript by a friend, he discovers it's written by Dr. Watson and details Sherlock Holmes investigating the Jack the Ripper murders. Intriguing concept. (

380/57-Ο μύθος βασίζεται στην εμπλοκή του Σέρλοκ Χόλμς για την ανακάλυψη της πραγματικής ταυτότητας του Τζακ του Αντεροβγάλτη , όπως αναφέρεται στις σημειώσεις του Γουάτσον που έρχονται με περίεργο τρόπο στα χέρια ντεντέκτιβ Κουήν . Ο Σέρλοκ Χολμς απαγορεύει τη δημοσιοποίηση της ιστορίας θέλοντας να προστατέψει τον υποτιθέμενο ένοχο ( στο μυαλό του Γουάτσον ) , χωρίς να αποκαλύπτει τον πραγματικό. Φυσικά ο ευφυής Κουήν μπαίνει στο μυαλό του Σέρλοκ και αντιλαμβάνεται όσα πραγματικά συνέβησαν. (

Ellery Queen reçoit un manuscrit inédit de Watson alors qu'il est en panne d'inspiration. Il le lit en même temps que nous et déchiffre entre les lignes ce que Holmes n'a jamais dit à Watson.

Le manuscrit de Watson est bien dans le style. Je dirais plutôt meilleur que les vrais. La valeur ajoutée par Ellery Queen cependant n'est pas énorme : les personnages sont caricaturaux, l'intrigue n'est pas inspirée. Sans le dénouement, ces parties seraient bonnes à jeter. Mais il y a le dénouement (

I would have given 5 stars but the story within the story, just didn't do it for me.

Its a nice idea but to me at least, it takes away one atmosphere from the other.

Its more graphic than the movie, but I liked the movie much better.

I found myself skipping over the Ellery part, only skimming to see how it played out, but the Sherlock part of the story I loved, but still liked the movie better. (
