This graphic novel blends several different genres by telling a fictional story to explain the basic science of sound. There are several appeal factors to this book making it popular for a large variety of kids. I especially enjoyed the explanation of a difficult concept through a graphic novel format, this will add appeal for reluctant readers. Summary: Max Axiom, a very creative young scientist with superpowers, goes to great lengths to teach kids about hard concepts in science. In this fun graphic novel, Max Axiom goes on an adventure to discover sound: what it is, where it comes from, and why it happens. The book also discusses terms useful to those interested in music when discussing pitch and volume. My Personal Reaction: I was very surprised to be able to find a nonfiction graphic novel, that would still interest students! This series is absolutely wonderful, and is very engaging. My favorite aspect of the series is that it does not make anyhting sound dumbed down, but still explains what complex terms means in a clear and understandable way. I wish this series had been around when I was in school! Classroom Extension Ideas: 1. Have students pick their favorite thing they learned about in science that year, and make a comic strip to explain it. 2. Have students create a fictional character like Max Axiom for their very own comic strip. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
