I found reading Nemi a fun, laugh out loud experience. I liked goth girl Nemi Montoya’s dark humor and refusal to be a responsible grown up. And I enjoyed her cynical outlook on life and how she rationalized her misadventures to herself and everyone else. Her misadventures include botched job interviews, bar hopping, disastrous dates, well pretty much any ordinary activity gone wrong or right, if your looking at it from Nemi’s point of view. Nemi is also honest to a comical fault. I felt I had so much in common with Nemi from her fascination with Lord of the Rings, to buying clothes in all shades of black and her choices in music. She’s my inner me, at least like I’d want to be if I didn’t have to be a responsible adult.Nemi is written and drawn by Lise Myhre. Nemi was originally written in Norwegian then translated to English. I love the illustrations, they are simple and gorgeous. Nemi is gorgeous.Even though I found the majority of the Nemi comic strips hilarious there were a few that didn’t make much sense to me. I think this was because the humor was most likely lost in translation. But there weren’t many of these strips to be a problem for me. I plan on looking for more Nemi comics in the future and finding copies of the previous volumes. There is a quote on the back of the book by Tori Amos that I think sums up Nemi perfectly:“There is a little of Nemi in all of us – this I believe to be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.” ( )

This was my first time reading Nemi and I absolutely loved it. I'm definitely gonna pick up volumes I & II. Nemi is great, she is laugh out loud funny. Speaks her mind and doesn't care who likes it or not. Her attitude and dark humor are what make her lovable to me. Nemi is addicted to sweets, and a fan of Lord of the Rings. That's a girl after my own heart! Ms. Myhre has created a endearing character both in the art and personality.

Nemi is a comic strip from Norway, created in 1997. She can also be found in the UK in the Metro newspaper. All three volumes of Nemi are also available in the U.S. ( )

The is a combined rating for all three collections so far published in the UK. LIse the creator of Nemi is Norwegian and her comics are in various newspapers and magazines in Norway, Sweden, the UK etc. Nemi is the little goth girl in all of us. She loves choclate above all things and Tori Amos and alcohol. She spends her days pondering the endless questions of the universe (she is mostly unemployed apart from some baby sittings jobs) and hanging out with her friend Cyan. The best way to get a feel for Nemi is to read her.

She is published in The Metro which is one of the free London papers you see people reading on the tube all the time. My husband is a sweetheart and often brings home ones he has torn out which particuarly remind him of me (like Nemi looking at cars and falling in love with the purple one or having a happiness overdose eating chocoalte and listening to the new Tori Amos album). Metro keep a copy of Nemi in their online archive so if you enjoyed the strips above go here for lots more.

Tori Amos has written the forward to the second collection and I think it's true that a little Nemi lives in all of us. Anyone who doesn't see a part of themselves in her is not someone I want to know! ( )
