This is one of the first comics that I ever read because my father had some of the single issues, but I had never read every single one. When this came out I immediately snatched it up because it was one of those books that actually got me to love comic books back in the day. Now I am in a phase where I don't appreciate the new comic books, but still found my love for this volume to be the same.

It was an interesting concept to create an entirely new set of characters based on the names of the lesser characters of the DC Universe. They created a great myth in this world and created something truly unique in the process. While I recognize they probably wouldn't be able to do this in the mainstream universe it was great to see them at least try to do something that didn't fit in at the time.

DC has always, in my heart, been the company that pays greater respect to their characters. While I do find myself not drawn to them at this current time I have always felt that they at least know that people love their characters and that they try to make them approachable where as Marvel will do anything for a dollar. This series made me see DC as fresh and innovative, but still paying respect to their other characters by setting this in a separate universe. I admired DC for everything that they have done with series like this one. The artwork is great on every single one of these stories and every story feels like a chapter of a book that you want to know what else happened in. ( )
