Lots of fun for all ages. Look at the invention, read the description (esp. the date!), and choose your best guess of 3-4 multiple choices for what it actually did. Flip the page to find the picture of the invention in use and a bit more about it. I was not able to figure out anywhere near all of them - but I got better as I paged through the large-format book and got the hang of what to focus on.
Some of these look like great ideas and I wish they'd succeeded! The only actual problem I have with the book itself is that I would have liked to see the inventions presented in chronological order so we could have a better sense of progress through history. Most of the inventions are from the days when cities were growing and the pioneers had pretty much 'mastered' the US, but some are actually from the 1960s. The other thing that would have been nice to have is a note for each about whether the invention caught on at all, but I imagine Murphy didn't know. ( )
