A retelling of the "The Fisherman and His Wife," but this time---spoiler alert!---with a happier ending: the old woman, who lives in small house shaped something like a vinegar bottle (there is an asterisk after the first sentence and footnote below it explain this), realizes that she has been ungrateful and apologizes to the fish and asks for nothing. The magical fish then offers to restore everything she has lost. She, having realized that she was basically content and certainly much happier before the story begins, asks only for a nice meal once a week.

The vinegar bottle is just a small hut shaped like that, but it's still a great story. It's like The Fisherman and his Wife, but more detailed, with lovely illustrations. Might be a little long for tots. ( )
