Moderately charming book of the Pye family and their clever dog, but marred by comments perhaps the norm in the 1950s when it was written that are totally inappropriate now. Racism, anti-Semitism, cruelty to animals - I found it impossible to overlook these and so cannot recommend the book. ( )

It took a long time to figure out where the dog was but other than that it was a cute story. ( )

The Pye family are a happy and loving family in early 20th century USA. Jerry Pye yearns for a dog. He and his siblings work hard to earn the money to get a puppy and finally get Ginger. After a short time together Ginger goes missing and the whole family works hard to find their missing family member. A little old timey and slow. ( )
