Cain and Makaylie’s start was rocky to say the least and in their second book the obstacles just keep coming at them. Cain is doing everything he can to protect Makaylie but he can’t seem to let her go because his love for her keeps growing and although he knows he should he just can’t. While Makaylie knows that Cain is continuing to hide things her heart is too invested to try and forget him but she tries for the sake of her own sanity. These two have a lot that is piled up against them and when things look dire their love seems to prevail except things are really starting to become dangerous and love may not be able to save them. Will Cain and Makaylie get the happy ever after they are looking for or will those coming after them stop things before they can? Intense read and a great way for these two to find their way. ( )

From The Ashes is the 2nd book in the Baton Rogue Bachelors Duet by K.E. Osborn. You can't read this book without reading Up In Flames first. This is an opposites-attract romance that can go from sweet and romantic to hurtful and terrifying in minutes. The twists that came in this book I did not see coming which made reading it all the better. I loved being shocked with things I didn't see and this was a good one.
Cain is the 2nd in command in the underground organization of the Baton Rogue Bachelors and he's fallen in love with Makaylie, a writer who lives in his apartment building and does not belong in his world. Cain has learned that he can't live without Makaylie so he has to find a way to protect her from the Bachelors. With the help of his roommate Rodberg, he is determined to find a way to keep her safe and hopefully himself too. Makaylie is pulled into a world she knows nothing about. She's tried avoiding Cain for weeks until her roommate Joey decides she needs to live again and drags her to a nightclub. That night changes her life forever and sets her on a path that she can't turn off of and the only thing saving her is Cain. Now he has to keep his secrets from getting them both killed.
I gave this a 5-star rating and a 4-spicy rating. Cain's determination to protect Makaylie at all costs and his choice to change his life for her was unique. Usually with alpha males like Cain the woman always has to change because the man won't. It's nice to see it the other way around for a change. And the twists and turns that surprised and shocked me just made the book all the better. I hate that it's a duet because I would like to see Cain and even Rodberg again. Definitely worth the read!
*I received this book for free. I voluntarily gave an honest review.* ( )
