Davis grew up in the time of segregation, but his family was successful despite this. His father held his own successful dentist practice, and his mother was a music teacher. Music interested Miles his entire life. Although his mother wanted him to attend an academic college, Miles got accepted in Juilliard and studied there. The classical music taught at Juilliard did not appeal to Miles, so he took to the streets of New York to pursue Jazz, and Be-Bop music. After years of successful tours, recordings, and battling the hurdles that racism threw his ways, jazz started losing its audience. Miles then turned to a down-hill battle with heroin, he eventually overcame his battle with addiction to come back stronger than ever. Miles created many successful albums since, and even won a Grammy. Despite his world-wide fame, Davis still faced racism and police brutality. He continued to make music even into the 90's. Davis had a strong, admirable influence on the world with his talent in music. This book was very thorough and detailed. I think it was a good account on Mile's Davis' life.
