Motz argues that the idea of an all encompassing Mother Goddess is a modern concept rather than one from Paleolithic times. She notes that the great anxieties of early humans was food and protection from danger, not human fertility. She examines a spectrum of cultures that have goddesses but claims not to have found any that fulfil the roles assigned by those who assumed an early matriarchy and worship directed to a goddess seen as the mother or source of all living things. SInce it would be impossible in one work to survey all goddess worshipping cultures and all goddesses any critic can argue that her selections were biased to support her thesis. Worth reading. Many contemporary feminists believe that early humans worshipped a nurturing Mother Goddess, who was displaced by autocratic male deities. This book examines the maternal deities of various cultures and religions but finds no signs of a common origin for a primordial ""Great Mother."" No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
