"Frederick and Grace Percy finally make it to Italy to enjoy a delayed honeymoon and explore the beauties of the historic city of Venice. To their surprise, their friend, Detective Jack Miracle, is also in the city, investigating a series of art heists starting at the house of eccentric millionaire, Laraby Covington. Drawn into a world of boat races, mysterious houses, and parties of the rich and unusual in Venice, Frederick and Grace learn of the existence of the Juliet paintings, (Renaissance paintings feature Shakespeare's tragic heroine) rumored to hold a secret code to an underground vault of similarly treasured artwork assumed lost over the centuries. As Freddie and Grace are pulled deeper into the mystery and their beloved Detective Jack disappears, can they use their wits and work as a team to find the thieves and Jack before it's too late"--… (más)

Grace Percy is finally getting a honeymoon in Italy with her husband, Lord Frederick Astley, but their honeymoon takes a back seat when they join Detective Jack Miracle in searching for stolen artwork. Venice may never be the same!

How can two people get in so much trouble without even trying? Is it Grace's insatiable love for mysteries that's come from reading detective stories, or is it Freddie's unswerving devotion to his bookish wife? I love these characters and I keep visualizing them as Nick and Nora Charles, the super-sleuthing couple from The Thin Man movies. Grace and Freddie are deeply in love, they don't run from adventure, and they're also charming and oh, so witty. I laugh out loud, I swoon over their romantic chemistry, and I'm always caught up in the adventure and danger!

If you want an intriguing adventure with romance, mystery, and exotic locations, grab a copy of The Juliet Code. It's rom-com at its best and a great addition to the Freddie & Grace Mystery series!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review. These are my own thoughts. ( )

When Freddie and Grace travel to Venice for their belated honeymoon, they find their detective friend Jack Miracle there investigating some stolen artwork. They can’t turn him down when he asks for their help, so they’re off on another adventure. Reading all those mysteries she loves comes in handy when Grace starts looking for clues. I enjoyed seeing Grace’s enthusiasm for sleuthing and Freddie’s realization that life with Grace would never be boring.

With plenty of action, suspense, humor, and intrigue, this tale has something for everyone. Basham’s signature wit and humor shine once again and make for some laughable moments. The main characters are fun and interesting, and the mystery kept me guessing. I did feel that the romantic innuendos between Grace and Freddie were a little excessive. Although I realized they are newlyweds, I felt a little uncomfortable since this is Christian fiction. It felt a bit inappropriate to me.

The Juliet Code is the third book in Pepper Basham’s Freddie & Grace Mystery series. While it could possibly be read as a stand alone book, some of the references might be a little confusing if you haven’t read the first two stories in the series.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from Barbour Publishing. All opinions are my own. ( )

Grace and Freddie are back with another mystery to solve in The Juliet Code by Pepper Basham. And this time, the adventure takes readers to Venice and introduces art into the storyline.

Basham does a great job of sweeping readers into the story and giving us some characters to root for. This release has some good twists and turns in it as well. Grace’s curiosity continues to get herself into predicaments, and Freddie remains her rescuer (in more ways than one).

In this book in particular, the age difference between Grace and Freddie is glaring. Grace can be a little naïve about some things while Freddie tends to be overly cautious at times. I suppose this is what balances the couple out, but I wanted to see a little more growth in Grace in this third book of the series.

But overall, The Juliet Code is a story to get swept away in with some laughs, lots of romance, and a somewhat complex riddle to solve. While this book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend the first two books in the series for some backstory before you dig into this one.

Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive or negative review. All opinions are my own. ( )

We can start in our little corner where God places us.

Lord Frederick Astley and his lovely wife Grace Percy are finally on their honeymoon in Venice. Needless to say, they find themselves embroiled in a mystery that makes this trip anything but boring.

Locked in a trunk, almost drowning and even a ghost make this ‘game’ one to long remember. What really is the curse that seems to follow the lovely Juliet paintings? With lots of action and plenty of love, you will find yourself laughing out loud at times and wondering if they will survive in the next moment.

Published by Barbour Publishing this copy was received through NetGalley. These impressions are my own and were in no way solicited. ( )

Looking for Treasure!

A series of paintings based on Romeo and Juliet have been disappearing. Known as the Juliets, they are highly prized by art collectors, and are rumored to contain clues to a treasure.

As Frederick and Grace, Lord and Lady Astley, honeymoon in Venice, the latest installment of the mystery surrounding the paintings takes place there, too. Their detective friend, Jack, pulls them into what seems to be a simple case, working for Daniel Laraby. But he is newly rich, and eccentric, and likes to liven life up, even if it is with things he fabricates.

The paintings have left a trail of dead owners besides the pictures disappearing. Only three have not been stolen, all possessed by Laraby.

He is holding a party at his newly remodeled, lavish estate on his private island. Laraby intends to show off his Juliets to an eclectic group of guests. He is not heeding Jack's warning that this party would be asking for trouble.

Frederick and Grace attend, and find themselves up to their necks in kidnappings, injuries, missing people, and deaths. The question is whether-or-not Frederick, Grace, or Jack, can figure things out without one or all of them losing their life.

This is a clean story, but some adult subject matter is talked about. Because of that, I recommend it for older teens and adults. Although part of a series, this tale stands on its own. Red herrings, danger, and excitement abound in this thrilling mystery. Many references are made by the characters about their faith, and what it has done in their lives. Fans of puzzles, treasure hunts, and adventure will enjoy this five-star book.

Thank you, Barbour Press, for providing Tickmenot with a book to review. Opinions are my own. ( )
