I received a complementary copy of Little Red Shadow through LibraryThing’s Early Reviewers program; my review is voluntary.
I expected to like this book because I love a good twist on a classic tale. This one, it quickly became clear, was very loosely connected to the original by only a few character names, but it still seemed interesting. However, I found myself bored by the plot of the rival gangs and such. I just couldn’t get into it. I skimmed ahead to get to the piano scene, but even the steamy moments were awkward. The writing itself is pretty solid throughout, but something about the spicy parts felt disconnected.
This isn’t a bad book, but for me personally, it wasn’t a great fit. Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. For some reason this one just didn't click for me. I think the premise of an alternate reality London where a main character magic (called talents in this book) has to team up with a duck, the attempted assassin to her best friend no less, is awesome! I liked the gang wars and the turf politics. I think the only thing I couldn't connect to were the main characters. I just never warmed up to Scarlett, her character was so stubborn that I got annoyed with it after a bit. And Benedict was described as a rake who was very charming....but I didn't get that. I found myself more intrigued with the characters of Georgette and Leon even though they didn't get much air time than with our main leads. Overall though I think readers of fantasy romance will really love this! Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. Although this novel could be read as a stand-alone, I strongly suggest reading the first book in the series before reading this second one. A supernatural steampunk adaptation of a classic story, this book is likely best for NA readers. I think more Talented background would help for those who didn't read the previous novel. Gritty and interesting.LibraryThing Early Reviewer The Wolves are out for blood, but Scarlett doesn't intend to let them catch their prey. In Book Two of the Talented series, Little Red Shadow is a fantasy Little Red Riding Hood inspired story. I really love the magic in these stories and everything about this world, S.C. Grayson has created. I don't necessarily think you have to read the first book to be able to read this one, but it would absolutely help understand the Talented and help understand some characters' backstories. ( Can I just say that I squealed when Nate, Contessa, Gregor, KRISTOFF!!!!, and Rhosyn popped up again...) I really loved Scarlett's character growth, but I think I loved Benedict's golden retreiver vibes more. His character will have you smiling at every mention of his name. There aren't as many side characters to fall in love with in this book, but the ones you do meet are incredible. I'm already excited to learn which story re-telling we'll be getting in the third book of this series! If you love fake-dating, magic, street gangs, angst, and action, read this book! If you start with the first book, which I highly recommend, be prepared that book two is a little darker with a little more spice. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
