The subtitle of the book is “a feel-good escapism summer romance” and yup, that is exactly what you get in this wonderful book of delicious pastry and wedding cakes galore, of days spent with a couple falling in love, and ooo… can I have some more croissants please? Carrie, dear friend of Eve from “Merry Christmas at the Castle”, is feeling restless in her job as pastry chef in the remote Scottish Highlands, and so she requests a transfer to London so she can work as a pastry chef in one of Lachlan’s other hotels and get a chance to experience a more urban lifestyle. I am seriously one of those readers who reads for 1) food and 2) travel experiences and I loved that every page of this book was a new delicacy. Buttered rolls. Shortbreads. Croissants. Gorgeous wedding cakes to design. Lunches out in little cafes. This book will make you hungry the entire time you read it in the BEST WAY. And I loved all the characters. Carrie of course was amazing, from her sweetness with Lily, her assistant chef with Down Syndrome who she takes under her wing, to Luke who manages the hotel and is a bit harried with all the weddings going on. I loved their slow burn romance. They had such great chemistry together as they tried to figure out where things might go at the end of the summer with their lives going in two different directions. And I loved all the positive messages of inclusion in this book, especially with Lily. Like all of Elizabeth Holland’s books, this one made me smile from start to finish… and eat a lot of carbs. 😊 Such a great read! 5/5 stars. ( ) sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
