Elwyn is remarkably unremarkable, and she prefers it that way. Perhaps it is a talent owed to the training of the notorious syndicate that reared her, or it may be a gift from her invisible friend-a clever and capricious creature who, unlike most invisible friends, has only grown more real with time. Either way, Elwyn's unremarkability is about to fail her. Upon absconding to the tiny town of Amblewick in search of a quiet, uneventful life, she catches the attention of two feuding tricksters, each in the market for the perfect pawn. Through either fate or magical machinations, she soon finds herself in the company of a cutthroat assassin, a wayward prince, and a little girl with a chilling secret. Despite their differences, this ragtag group of ruffians just might manage to save multiple worlds...provided they don't kill each other first.… (más)

"The Unseen" by Lilla Glass introduces readers to Elwyn, a thief who values her remarkably unremarkable life, preferring to navigate the world unnoticed. However, her unremarkability is put to the test when she absconds to the tiny town of Amblewick in pursuit of a quiet existence. Glass weaves a tale that blends intrigue, magic, and unlikely alliances as Elwyn catches the attention of two feuding tricksters seeking the perfect pawn.

The narrative takes an unexpected turn when Elwyn finds herself entangled with a cutthroat assassin, a wayward prince, and a mysterious little girl. The diverse cast of characters, each with their own quirks and secrets, promises a riveting journey filled with both tension and camaraderie. Glass skillfully develops the dynamics among this ragtag group of individuals, setting the stage for a plot that could potentially save multiple worlds—assuming they don't end up killing each other first.

"The Unseen" invites readers into a world where the mundane meets the magical, and where Elwyn's unremarkable life takes a thrilling turn. Glass creates a narrative rich in character development and unexpected twists, making it a must-read for those who appreciate tales of unlikely alliances, mysterious forces, and the potential for saving worlds in the most unexpected ways. Get ready for an adventure where the unremarkable becomes extraordinary.

The Unseen (first in the The Reel of Rhysia series) by Lilla Glass is a dark fantasy, fairytale horror story.
Elwyn is a thief who is remarkably unremarkable who is on the run from her past. She & her friend Luatha, a Piskie go on to form a party with a grumpy assassin, a flirty Fae prince, & a little girl out of a horror story. Together this flawed, found family just might be the ones to save multiple worlds.
There are things to like about this story. The characters are interesting & not totally perfect which is refreshing. There is an interesting blend of worlds in the book, not just the mortal realm but the Seelie, & Unseelie realms also.
Unfortunately, for me, there were to many things I didn't enjoy about it to give more than 3 stars. For one thing, it felt from the start as if this was a second book, not a first in the series. We are introduced to Elwyn as if we should know her back story, the whole reason she is hiding out in this remote town is unexplained but in a way that makes me feel i should know what happened. I even went to look up if there was a prequel or something that would make it feel less like i was thrown into something mid-stream.
This book as multiple POV, which I usually enjoy but they flipped way to fast not just between the main characters but also between multiple secondary characters. To many POV & to fast of flips means you almost needed a score board. It took til half way through the book to start sinking in who was where, what, & when.
Overall points for the concept & for the interesting characters but minuses for the disjointed execution that made it a struggle to keep up. ( )

Right from the beginning you are thrown into a well-built fantasy world. The characters are well written, and the plot was ok. I personally just struggled to get into it but that is just because this story just wasn't for me. ( )

From the very beginning you are thrown into a beautiful fantasy. Usually with a lot of fantasy books I something is neglected be it characters with their background and development, world building, or just good and beautiful writing. This book lacks none of those things. Everything is established well and I can't wait for the next.
