A pamphlet-sized book based on an address delivered before the American Library Association in 1932. The discussion suggests that: "A civilazation that has made the accumulation of inanimate objects the chief aim and purpose of life is never going to enjoy the hearty co-operation and the undivided loyalty of the more intelligent members of the community". I would not have chosen the last seven words of this quote but I am inclined to agree with the argument - to some degree. The best answer probably lies in the middle somewhere.
