This is a sweet picturesque book that I would recommend to anyone planning a forest unit or a hiking/nature walk activity with children. The beginning opens with a letter to the reader from the author about a hike the author took that morning with his dog. The photographs filling the pages make the reader feel actually there, walking through the forests. At the end are several miscellaneous facts about the animals discussed throughout the book. I would love to use this book as inspiration for a lesson (or even a unit!) about forests. Students could take a nature walk and write their own book following this format (open with letter, pictures of nature with captions, and a couple facts about one of the things found on the walk).
