After reading False Illusions, I was excited to read To Steal a Heart, the next book in the Honeysuckle Island series. Suspense, mystery, hidden identity, and a series of high end thefts make this book a fun read that kept me turning the pages.
Arden is not only a wealthy heiress, but also a talented best selling author. Because of her wealth, she’s often been the target of fortune hunters. Her brash grandmother whom she often clashes with has a great nose for frauds and often offers Arden unwanted advice on her suitors.
Hoping to find a “normal” guy, she takes a dancing class while researching her next book, and hides her real identity. She meets a handsome guy named Crew who appears to be what she’s always wanted in a man. As they grow closer, Arden struggles with keeping the truth from him. But, Crew is hiding his own secrets. What will happen when everything is revealed, especially when an expensive mask goes missing?
This book had plenty of twists and turns. While it took a while for me to get into, once I became invested in the story, I had a hard time putting it down. The characters were interesting and I enjoyed Arden’s spunk. I did find her crassness at times a little off putting and she and Crew both acted younger than I thought they were. They talked like teenagers sometimes rather than mature adults.
While this wasn’t my favorite book of the series, I enjoyed the twists. Recommend to YA mystery readers and romantic suspense fans. There’re also brief mentions of faith woven into the story that Christian romance fans will enjoy. Though part of a series, it can definitely be read as a standalone. I received an advanced complimentary copy from Book Sirens. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review. ( )
