I enjoyed reading The Red Ear Blows Its Nose by Robert Schechter which I was given as an advanced copy. This selection of poems is designed for children and there is a cross-section of different themes. I particularly enjoyed "Compared to What." The second verse goes: And if you were a molecule, an atom or a proton, a water drop would be a lake for you to sail your boat on. There are plenty more verses in this poem to compare! Having being struck as a teenager by Physicist Richard Feynman's poem which ends "I, a universe of atoms, an atom in the universe" I guess I was hoping for more poetic scientific insights. I an sure that the variety of poems inside will inspire more creativity amongst aspiring young poets to have a go and write, illustrate and share their own poems.
“A rich experience . . . a great classroom resource, as well as an entertaining and illuminating collection.” "Showing masterful command of metrics and rhyme, the poet launches observations both playful and reflective on topics from seasons to self. . . . Smells like a winner!" "Children and adults alike will enjoy bouncing through the vivacious rhythms and the breadth of surprising, marvelous ideas. These are for reading out loud, to laugh at, to muse on, and to grow up with. "VERDICT A robust addition to general poetry collections, sure to appeal to a wide range of poetry lovers."
