This is good but he's since published a far more comprehensive and more embellished description of the art, which has the advantage of many years more experience in the theatre. That would be his Stage Lighting Design: the art, the craft, the life, published in 1997. Pilbrow is a good writer, and recounts the triumphs and flops with verve and accuracy.
