In the first installment in the Seventh Son trilogy by JC Hutchins, the action starts fast and furiously. There is the drawing of the clones of John Alpha, who have been called upon by the government to stop the original John Alpha who the clones are based off of. The action starts with the assassination of the president of the United States using some crazy, high tech equipment.

This novel basically sets the table for what is going to happen later. There are a lot of action and ideas that are brought to the table. One of the things that I like about this novel and the series is the disparate nature of the clones. Even though they are based off of the same person, they have very different personalities. Some of the technology that Hutchins references is very neat. Some of it is so out there that it really defies the realm of believability, so it’s a little hit or miss for me. I enjoyed the writing style, which tends to be frantic at times. It was an enjoyable novel and a good start to the series.

I listened to this as a podcast from podiobooks.com. I really enjoyed it. In the beginning I was kind of confused since we were just entering the lives of so many people and it seemed random. However, I appreciated how Hutchins tried to differentiate between each of the clones with different names, though, in reality, they probably would have had the same name. This is one of the first audiobooks i've ever listened to and I love the ideas of audiobooks as well as the content of this book. Time to start the next one! ( )

JC Hutchins, you are a brilliant, brilliant bastard - your cliffhanger on this book has me desperate to continue the series. NOW. And yet I must wait for the books to reach me!I found myself caring about the characters and the scenario very rapidly, and buzzing through the text at an incredibly fast pace - I couldn't put it down. The sci-fi tech was plausible, the setup was believable, and the villains were realistic and yet chilling. I couldn't help but be terribly suspicious of "Mom," though, and part of me is really wondering whether or not she'll turn out to be something other than she appears in later installments... ( )

7th Son: Descent is the first novel in the 7th Son Series by J. C. Hutchins.

Plot:
Shortly after the President of the US is assassinated by a four-year-old, seven men who have seemingly nothing in common get abducted by a shadowy government organisation. Slowly they discover what secret they all share – and what connects them to assassination.

Here’s what you need to know about 7th Son: Descent: It’s hard SciFi. It’s a thriller. It leaves you on tenterhooks. As far as I know, its sequel is not yet written, in any case not yet released. You’re going to hate J. C. Hutchins a little bit for that. And you should definitely read 7th Son: Descent.
